Microsoft Power Apps

Reference SQL databases from other tenants in apps

Large organizations often have multiple tenants for various reasons, such as legal requirements (by country or region) or security needs (data partitioning). Thanks to a change in the Entra Auth connection for the SQL Connector, makers will now be able to streamline their apps and eliminate unnecessary complexity by directly referencing external tenants.

Plan out solutions to business problems with Plan designer

The native integration of Microsoft Copilot in Microsoft Power Apps can now assist you in creating a solution plan to address business challenges.

Feature details

  • Plan designer: Using the new Plan designer, planned to be generally available in September, makers can leverage Copilot to detail their scenario and requirement definitions.
  • Solution architecture: Create an overall solution architecture through proposed objects such as data models, tables, and apps.

Enhanced testing for Microsoft Power Apps

The Microsoft Power Apps Test Engine will offer improved testing options to support the handling of larger-scale Power Apps without regressions, resulting in more robust applications with fewer bugs.

Feature details

  • Enhanced canvas app testing: Improved capabilities for testing canvas apps.
  • Model-driven app testing: Introduction of testing options for model-driven apps.
  • Robust authentication options: More secure and reliable authentication methods.

Manage your source code for canvas apps

Makers can now view the underlying code in canvas apps to understand app functionality and manage source control, enhancing Application Lifecycle Management practices.

Feature details

  • Human-readable YAML format: View the source code for the canvas app in an updated, human-readable YAML format, with each screen in your app having a separate file.
  • Store files in a code repository: Easily store the files in a code repository.
  • Automate canvas app generation: Automate the generation of a canvas app.
  • Improve generative canvas app models: Enhance the models used for generative canvas apps.
  • Refactor without the designer: Refactor canvas apps without using the designer.
  • Native Git integration: Integrate natively with Git for Power Platform.

Microsoft Power Pages

Enhanced file upload in Microsoft Power Pages sites

A long-standing improvement is anticipated to enhance the file upload options in Microsoft Power Pages sites. With this update, users will be able to drag and drop files or upload them directly from their camera.

Feature details:

  • Upload larger files: Increased file size limit for SharePoint storage.
  • Drag and drop files: Easily drag and drop files for upload.
  • Malware scanning: Scan files for malware to ensure security.
  • Streamlined configuration: Configure file upload for SharePoint storage with a streamlined experience in the design studio.

Microsoft Power Automate

Generate process maps for multi-flow automations

Keeping an overview of the different sub flows that make up larger automations can be time-consuming but is essential for speeding up troubleshooting issues in ongoing processes.

Feature details

  • Troubleshooting efficiency: This visualization helps reduce troubleshooting time.
  • Simplified navigation: Simplify navigation through automation logs and connections.

Visual editor for writing Microsoft SharePoint OData queries in cloud flows

Currently, if you need to filter data in your 'Get items', 'Get files', or 'List rows' in SharePoint and Excel by a specific rule (such as column name), you have to write an OData query yourself. With this enhancement, you can use a visual OData editor, eliminating the need to write complex OData queries manually.

Updates to Microsoft Power Automate desktop flows

The upcoming release wave 1 of 2025 for Power Automate Desktop flows introduces several significant updates aimed at enhancing automation capabilities and user experience.

Feature details

  • Record with Copilot: Share your screen and describe tasks to create detailed automations without needing deep technical knowledge.
  • Self-healing UI and browser automation: Uses AI to locate and repair UI elements during execution, improving success rates for UI and web automation scenarios.
  • Machine to credential mapping: Define lists of credentials for desktop flow connections, supporting unique user sessions for each machine.
  • VM image capture: Capture a VM image on a hosted machine to use as a template for other machines or groups.
  • Entra hybrid join: Join hosted machine group bots to both on-premises Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID using custom virtual networks.
  • Voice interaction with Copilot: Enhance productivity by allowing users to create and manage desktop flows using natural language spoken through a microphone.
  • Optimize desktop flows: Provides intelligent insights and recommendations during flow creation, leveraging historical data and best practices to enhance efficiency and reduce errors.
