What is the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)?

The European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is a policy aimed at curbing deforestation and forest degradation by prohibiting the import of certain commodities, such as cocoa, soy, palm oil, wood, coffee, rubber, and cattle, including their derived products. By January 1st, 2025, businesses preparing and commercializing these products must provide proof that their supply chains are not contributing to deforestation or forest degradation, making traceability and sustainability vital components of compliance.

Understanding EUDR compliance: your questions answered

From December 30, 2025, medium & large-sized companies must, depending on their role, set up a system of due diligence encompassing the following activities:
- Information gathering
- Risk assessment
- Risk mitigation
- Traceability
To prove their products cannot be linked to deforestation & degradation (after December 31, 2020).

For micro and small companies, this obligation begins on June 30, 2026.

In both cases, traceability and transparency are essential requirements for achieving EUDR compliance.
The EUDR regulation impacts you if you are a producer, importer/exporter, or trader of a good in scope. Not sure if your good is in scope? Review the HS code of your products against Annex I of the regulation, or contact delaware.
EUDR applies to commodities and/or finished goods, semi-products containing (traces of) palm oil, soy, wood, coffee, cocoa, cattle, rubber and wood, and their derivates, including packaging.
Non-compliance can result in fines of up to 4% of your annual turnover, market access restrictions and reputational damage.
There are 3 main components of compliance. First of all, collect and gather all the data/ information and conduct a proper due diligence. Secondly, assess the riks involved. Thirdly, develop a risk mitigation plan and follow up.
