#WeCare, a decade of devotion

Sep 26, 2024

Time flies when you’re having fun. The #peopleofdelaware have been making a difference for 10 years (!) with a positive and open-minded attitude and paying homage to our communal delaware DNA, through our #WeCare initiative. To honor and celebrate this majestic milestone, we’ll be fully engaged in the upcoming 10 days to make an even bigger impact.

By #peopleofdelaware for #peopleofdelaware and their community. ❤️To celebrate #WeCare's first decade, we will be joining as many activities, aimed at giving back and supporting various causes, as our agenda allows us to over the next 10 days.  Every effort makes a meaningful impact on the well-being of our communities and the world around us. 🌍Together, we can drive positive change that lasts. Let’s have a closer look at some highlights of the upcoming days.

A walk in the park

We kick off with adventures walks (and a busload of warm hugs) for our furry friends 🐩 in need. Trust us, there are a lot. Our goal is to support local animal shelters, which work tirelessly to care for animals to provide love, safety, and a second chance. By joining forces, we can help them continue their vital work!

Celebrating without a party?

Impossible. We invite all the #peopleofdelaware to a festive afterwork at our Kortrijk office to toast with colleagues, and raise money for all our charity partners. The bar, the music, the food… everything will be run by our own #peopleofdelaware. And yes – there will be (a lot of 😉 ) chocolate involved.

Food for thought

Food brings people together. And that’s exactly what our colleague Rob Hofman will do by organizing a breakfast to raise money for ‘Kom op tegen Kanker to sponsor his 1000 km cycling journey with his close family. 🚲

Rob says: “I lost both grandparents to cancer. During their struggle, my father decided to do the full “1000 km” for Kom op tegen Kanker, this year marks his 6th full ride. As a tribute, me and my uncle are joining him, raising money for cancer research.”

The #peopleofdelaware enjoying breakfast, warms my heart and shows the impact of working for a company with a big heart.
Rob Hofman,

Our colleague Hanh will also add food to the delaware tables. 🍜 She has Vietnamese roots and recently shared some of her childhood memories from a mountainous province in Vietnam. In this region, schools are far, not easily accessible to the children who work hard on the farms leading many of them end up to get married at young ages of 15 or 16. Reading “Tiếng Việt” (Vietnamese), the very first book Vietnamese children read in school, was a cherished dream for her and the other children from the highlands.

In 2016, with the support of UNICEF, Hanh along with some friends, founded the Youth Connection Club (YC). YC organizes volunteer programs to propagate the importance of education in the highlands hoping to minimize the number of children who are subjected to child labour.

She is transforming the Antwerp office into a true Youth Connection support club by organizing a Vietnamese lunch to raise money for the community.

I believe that every child deserves the chance to succeed, regardless of their circumstances. By supporting this lunch, we brighten up the lives of some children from the other side of the world.

Nurture Nature

In 2021, our journey with Natuurpunt started when the #peopleofdelaware planted more than 4000 trees to restore a vital ecological connection between the Votvinkenbos and the Rotbos in Kampenhout. 🌳 And that's not all – in 2022, we extended this forest by planting an additional 4500 trees!

Now, two years later, we have an incredible opportunity to visit our delaware forest while also helping Natuurpunt with haying in the nature reserve of Torfbroek. It’s an afternoon of nature, fun & giving back to our planet 🌍

Rise by lifting others

Did you know that one of the strongest Belgians is among the #peopleofdelaware? Yes, that's right! Jelle Hoste also cares a lot. Jelle’s brother-in-law lives at Tordale, an organisation that is committed to giving people with (suspected) intellectual disabilities the steering wheel to build their own life with quality. Jelle is raising money by giving a CrossFit workout to our #peopleofdelaware, but also giving the people of Tordale a memorable afternoon by involving them in the workshop. All proceeds will go to Tordale and the Torhout Lions, a G-sport team made up of Tordale residents.

These highlighted initiatives are just a drop in the bucket compared to all that’s in store during our tribute to 10 years of #WeCare. All #peopleofdelaware are involved in one way or another as we celebrate this decade.

💛 A special thank you to our #WeCare founding mother Ann De Sloover for her commitment, and for living our value of ‘care’ over the past decade.

We are looking forward to the next 10 years!

#WeCare, do you?
