When managing critical infrastructure, minimizing downtime is crucial. An efficient procurement system contributes to rapid intervention in the event of failure. That’s why Dutch utility company Stedin fast-tracked procure-to-pay with a combination of SAP Ariba and SAP Invoice Management.

Stedin manages the gas and electricity network in the central-western part of the Netherlands. The utility company supplies electricity and gas to approximately 2 million residential and industrial customers.

Reducing time spent on procurement

Stedin’s over 3,500 employees need a system to order materials and tools for their job. In the past, they relied on SAP SRM for this. “Our legacy system was severely outdated and poorly maintained, so we sought an innovative and cost-effective successor,” explains Ben Ubert, procure-to-pay expert at Stedin.

Implementing delaware’s FAST P2P package checked all the boxes. “FAST P2P integrates SAP Ariba with SAP Invoice Management. This combination drastically reduces time and resources spent on indirect procurement,” says Wim Eyken, partner at delaware Netherlands. “Employees can directly order the materials they need on their smartphone through SAP Ariba, while invoices are sent out automatically with SAP Invoice Management.”

Challenging implementation and enthusiastic users

With just four months between the start of the implementation and planned go-live, things had to go smoothly. “delaware demonstrated they have the knowledge to pull this off,” says Ben. The lightning-fast implementation of just 11 weeks was rewarded with an SAP Quality Award in the Fast Delivery category.

“The next step is to give more employees and suppliers access to SAP Ariba and to add new features,” says Ben. “More and more employees are spontaneously asking for access to SAP Ariba. This proves without a doubt that this was the right choice.”
