Finding your way to Dynamics Finance

Dec 15, 2021

Whether the opportunity presents itself or whether you actively go looking for it, a career switch is always exciting. You learn new things about yourself and about the field you work in. At delaware, too, we have many people who turned their careers around. In this blog specifically, we talk to Ilse Everaert and Kristof Boury who both made the switch from controller to our Dynamics Finance team.

How long have you been at delaware?

Ilse: “I joined delaware in 2012 having previously worked as a controller for various companies. Becoming a consultant offered me a greater sense of freedom and dynamism. I really enjoy working for different customers and switching between projects.”

Kristof: ”I’ve been at delaware for 17 years now, since early 2004. Before that I worked as an accountant at a different company.”

How did you find your way to Dynamics Finance?

Kristof: “At first I was a controller working internally for delaware. At a given moment we started implementing Microsoft tools in our department and as a key user, I frequently interacted with our consultants. Because the Dynamics Finance team had a lot projects coming their way, I was asked if I was interested in making the switch to being a Dynamics consultant. After some consideration, I decided to go for it and I haven’t regretted it ever since.”

Ilse: ”When I started working for delaware in 2012, it was my second job as a consultant. Previously, I was a controller for 7 years in two different companies and I had worked as an SAP consultant at a different consulting firm for 4 years. The switch to consulting was something I was really pleased with. Initially, I joined delaware as an SAP Finance consultant as I had been an SAP key user and consultant up until that point. However, I’m a person who relishes new challenges every now and then and in 2017 I decided to make the switch from SAP to Dynamics 365.”

Which recent project do you look back on fondly?

Ilse: “That would have to be my very first Dynamics project, I think. I was asked to handle the blueprinting for a new project. Basically, my task was to scope both the customer and the program (Dynamics365) and see how we could merge both. As this was my very first encounter with Dynamics 365, I was feeling a bit nervous. However, I was able to successfully scope the project, which was a great way to create some momentum for myself.”

Kristof: “For me it’s a project we did a while back for a Dutch customer. It required the entire team to spend 2 days per week in the Netherlands for a year. Naturally, spending that much time together was a great way to establish a solid team spirit, which I feel is an essential delaware characteristic.”

What are you currently working on?

Kristof: “At the moment we’re working on a Dynamics 365 implementation for a customer. It involves analyzing business processes to standardize certain features as well as optimising a number of key processes.. It’s going very well, so let’s keep up the good work!”

Ilse: “As I said previously I really like a good challenge from time to time. That’s why I have requested to be a project manager on two projects we’re currently handling. I really like to have that “bird’s eye view” of a project and coach the people working with me.”

What would your message be to people considering a career switch towards Dynamics Finance?

Kristof: “For me, becoming a Microsoft Dynamics consultant was a great decision. You get the opportunity to apply your acquired finance knowledge and experience. Aside from that, it’s also a great way to gain even more experience as you frequently come into contact with many different companies and industries.”

Ilse: “Becoming a consultant requires a particular mindset since you work for different customers at the same time. However, it’s that variation that I really enjoy. Also, the opportunity to extend your knowledge with every project is priceless. So if that’s what you’re looking for, don’t hesitate!”

Why should your future colleagues choose delaware?

Ilse: “At delaware, I experience every day that our values aren’t just words. I’ve seen the company grow over the years and it’s still very much a human-centered organization. Also, when switching teams within delaware, I was fully supported and handed the necessary tools to ensure a smooth transition.”

Kristof: “I fully agree with what Ilse says. Also, I really appreciate the flexibility in terms of working place for example. I can be in the Kortrijk office one day and spend the next two in Ghent or vice versa.”

Since it’s that time of year again: what are your New Year’s resolutions?

Ilse: “The last two years have been really challenging with many people working from home. That’s why, for next year, my main resolution is to reconnect with my colleagues in person and spend some time with them in one of our offices. Aside from that, I will also continue to look for challenges to enrich both myself and delaware.”

Kristof: “Largely the same as Ilse. Since the pandemic hit, we’ve discovered the advantages of working from home and it’s important to hang on to them. However, my goal, too, would be to spend more time in the office with my colleagues.”
