What do you like most about your job?
‘What do you like most about your job?’ sounds like a plain question. But can you answer it immediately?
Although I love my job, I can’t.
‘What do you like most about your job?’ sounds like a plain question. But can you answer it immediately?
Although I love my job, I can’t.
Let’s take a step back and first ask yourself: ‘What do I love doing as a person?’. Me, I like interacting with people. And according to Maslow, (an American psychologist who’s best known for his pyramid of needs, a theory of psychological health predicated on fulfilling innate human needs in priority, culminating in self-actualization), everybody has the need to do so. But next to my social life, I’m happy that my job allows me to put that into practice. As an HR Officer in recruitment and selection, I communicate with both people inside and outside the organization.
And that’s one thing that I love about my job.
I also enjoy helping people. In my job that means i.e. helping candidates to find a job that really fits their personal interests and their job expectations. Or helping a Delaware Consulting team to find a new colleague that really fits the group. Maslow’s need for Esteem? Check!
But what do my colleagues think about their job? After all (for some of them), I had my share in their choice for a job at Delaware Consulting…
Heleen – Functional Analyst | SAP Sales & Distribution
“What I like about my job, next to its need for team spirit and close collaboration with people, is the analytical aspect. For every new project, you have to dig into the company and figure out the as-is and to-be processes.”
Christian – Creative Designer | Marketing
“Creative freedom. I like to brainstorm and think out of the box for my concepts. My job can be very challenging at times, but then again, it pushes me and my senses to full potential.”
Sven – SAP CRM Consultant | Customer Experience
“I like the ‘work hard, play hard’ mentality in my job. Passion and commitment are important. However, once in a while it’s also great to blow off some steam. Within Delaware Consulting this mentality is shared and nobody runs from a party.”
Magali – SAP SD Consultant | SAP Logistics
“My job is like doing sports and training towards a specific goal. Each week, you train together with your colleagues, which is represented in discovering/investigating new things and a steep learning curve. You need to use all your power of will and capabilities to commit during a project and to achieve a successful go-live at the end.”
Simon – MS xRM Consultant | Customer Experience
“My job offers a wide variety of opportunities. This brings varied work and challenging projects. But a strong and cohesive team makes it possible to tackle each challenge.”
I’m not that surprised to see that almost all our colleagues refer to teamwork, commitment and care, which are, not coincidentally, Delaware Consulting values. Also ‘knowledge sharing’ is frequently mentioned.
I like to add one more myself. I’m offered the opportunity to work flexible hours. The fact that my employer focuses on results instead of hours and/or exact location makes it able to retain a good work-life balance. Add the fact that we’re all working in a stable and healthy company (≈security) and I can tell you that we beat Maslow’s pyramid :).
